On Saturday I had a brilliant day at the eco printing workshop with Joelle Harris, (The Eco Wardrobe Warrior,) at The Steel Rooms in Brigg.
The Steel Rooms has a beautifully light and airy workshop space upstairs and Joelle brought a huge variety of plants, leaves and materials for us to play with.
Joelle showed us her beautiful printed samples before we were let loose!
The beauty of this technique is that you can never really predict what will happen!
It was like Christmas when you unwrapped your bundle!
Soon lots of printed fabrics festooned the workshop space!
Playing with silk...
So exciting!
I found a friend!
Look at Joelle's beautifully printed pinny!
It was amazing to see the variety of colours you could create.
Time for a cup of tea before printing our scarves...
Laying out the leaves and flowers ready for printing... very exciting!
This one was a big bundle!
My friends printed silk scarves...
Ta! Dah!
Look how stunning the print is when the light shines through the silk.
And here's my woollen scarf!
I kept a couple of the hydrangea flowers that were left over.
Thank you so much Joelle and all at The Steel Rooms for such a fabulous day. I can't wait to try this at home.
I would love to try this. Could you share the basic concept of how to? Steam and I see vinegar?
ReplyDeleteI'm no expert Kathleen and have much to learn but here's the link to Joelle's site, she is so knowledgable.

DeleteThis is a fascinating technique and I have long wanted to try it. Some wonderful creations. A Blog I follow on this is http://terriekwong.blogspot.com/ Terrie Smiling. She also gives classes, travelling to other countries too.
ReplyDeleteOo thank you, I'll look this up!
DeleteGreatly appreciated, it's such a fascinating technique! X
I found tutorials online, though none of their results were as nice as yours!
ReplyDeleteLilbitbrit has just added another great site full of info Kathleen, there's so much to learn about this, very exciting x

so I completely stopped ;-) ...)
It's very unpredictable I must admit! Great fun though x

DeleteBeautiful scarves , new skills and friends, a super day
ReplyDeleteIt really was! Thanks for popping by xxx
DeleteThat looks like a truly fabulous day. Some of those result would make the most wonderful backgrounds for mixed media etc. Lots of very exciting potential. Not something I have ever explored so I will look out for local opportunities. And the scarves look lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you me dear, if you do get the chance have a go. It's such fun! X
DeleteYour leaf print is stunning. This looks such fun. I once did an erosion bundle project leaving bundles of material / paper with rusty nails etc in different parts of the garden all winter. It was fun !
ReplyDeleteNow that sounds exciting! Thanks for popping by me dear X
DeleteTry Mahonia bark shreddings and you get amazing lemon, thru yellows to almost lime dependant on your mordant used. Great results there!
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend, Ive never heard of Mahonia, but I shall look it up. Very exciting! x
DeleteAlice Fox tied fabric to sea groynes around the rusty bolts on them and achieved wonderful results too :) She did that at Spurn Point in Yorkshire and left them for afew days with the two tides a day washing over the fabric and rusty bits. Stunning. But then rust dyeing is another part of the dye Fun!
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to go to one of Alice Fox's workshops, she is amazing! x
DeleteLooks like you had an amazing time. I just did an eco printing workshop here in Oz yesterday. Using various Eucalyptus leaves we printed on a silk and wool scarf I posted pics on my IG page (Sweet Birdy Love) Just wondering were the scarves soaked in a mix of water and vinegar beforehand. Interesting to compare techniques. I got some great colours and it certainly is loads of fun and very addictive....... :)
ReplyDeleteOo I'll have a look thank you! Yes, we used that technique, I'll have to look out for eucalyptus leaves. I loved using the rose petals x
