Metanoia!

I teach Fine Art part time at the Sixth Form College that I actually went to as a student myself about 300 years ago!
I am very lucky to work with a very talented team and for the first time I will help deliver the Art Foundation course.
This is something I have always wanted to do and I feel a mixture of excitement and nerves.
Here's one of the Summer Holiday pieces of homework, based on the brief 'Faces In The Landscape'.
(There is even a real snail in there somewhere!)
The first week's work has been based on 'paper' and we have really been challenging those poor students!
Good job they are very talented!
It's been a productive week!
The students have worked in both 2D and 3D.
Morning crit's... The best way to start the day!
Everyone spoke so eloquently about their work, I was very proud.
We have now progressed to making paper garments...can't wait to see the finished results!
If you'd like to follow the Art Foundation course and all the adventures that will ensue, you can find us all on Instagram @metanoia and on blogspot.
I wonder what will happen next!

Scribbly Tuesday...

It's been a pretty miserable day outside and I really fancied having a play.
Nothing plotted.
Nothing planned.
For this brooch I scribbled directly onto the fabric, chucking in some of my favourite neon for good measure.
I think he looks rather smug, don't you!

Sennen Sun Set...

Hope you don't mind another little flashback from my summer holiday.
We spent a lovely, chilled out evening on Sennen beach.
Mini Goth and her cousins were body boarding, I was reading and chatting.
Bliss.
And as I was scrolling through the photos just now, I realised that I had recorded the sun gradually setting.
And I just had to include these of a rather hyper MG after her boarding session!
Happy days!

Snippets and Whisperings...

I've been preparing for my Hope and Elvis workshop weekend that's coming up in November.
I love having something to work towards to, I get butterflies thinking about it, it's like getting ready for a big celebration!
These little collages took quite a long time to arrange, and were made from the treasures I found from the car booting I did in Cornwall.
Some of these fancies have stories to tell.
This young debutant secretly built her own rocket in 1932 and was actually the first person in Space.
Martha, a fearsome Matriarch, spends hours talking to her beloved aspidistra.
Wistfully reminiscing about the young man she loved and lost.
The others have yet to whisper their tales...
Hope you like, I'm off to get snipping!

I Love Newlyn...

I do, I really love it.
Newlyn doesn't put on a 'show' for us tourists.
It is what it is, full of art, fishing and characters.
The Strand is such a great example of this.
It is a quirky Kingdom of wittily curated treasures.
It makes me so happy to see Mini Goth enjoying thrifty places as much as I do!
I found Me a Cornish Pisky!
Look at that fabric, just look at that fabric!
I always knew that computers were evil!
Now that's a working desk!
Family portrait opportunity!
Phew!
Fancy an ice cream?
Jelberts is legendary and, again, is a true reflection of the Newlyn spirit.
You can have any flavour as long as it's vanilla.
(Believe me, you wouldn't want another flavour anyway! When I was pregnant I ate his by the bucket load!)
We walked past this house, and I dreamed of moving in, giving it some love and living by the sea...
Here's a little out- take for you...
And that's a photo bomb!
