Yesterday my neighbour popped round and asked if I would like the bits of fabric she found in her Mum's blanket chest.
I nearly fainted with happiness!
It was so interesting to hear her talk about the dresses she had made from them, and for what occasion she wore them.
It reminded me just how precious and loved their clothes were before mass produced fashion hit our high streets.
I am going to try and make special things from these treasures so that they will stay loved and have new stories to tell.
And look at these beauties I found in the charity shop!
I am obsessed with tiny things.
Do you remember having blancmanges like this for your birthday parties?
This frying pan, complete with a full English is my favourite!
Can't wait to add them to my Nanna brooches!
Miniature things make me happy too. I have a teeny-tiny dolls house spoon on my mantlepiece from a set my sister and I had as children. We used to have to improvise our dolls stuff (matchbox chests of drawers, cotton-reel pouffes etc) and I remember the feeling of getting PROPER miniature cutlery was a real treat.
ReplyDeleteI remember making bed sheets out of loo roll covered in Sellotape!

Gosh! Those fabrics....I am a wee bit envious :)
ReplyDeleteI am @smallofferings from Instagram btw!
Thanks for popping by Birdie! I love following you on IG! X
DeleteThose fabrics mare just wonderful. You're so right, clothes lasted so much longer and meant more before the hideousness of fast disposable fashion. Love the dolls house kitchen ware - reminds me of Beatrix Potter's Two Bad Mice! xxx
ReplyDeleteIt really is like the Two Bad Mice! X
DeleteGorgeous fabrics. There's nothing quite like being handed treasures is there? I love minatures, especuially teeny tea sets. Yup, I remember those blancmanges. My gran used to make enormous ones that were feats of engineering.x
ReplyDeleteYou don't really see blancmanges nowadays. My mum used to make ones out of a rabbit mold and they had chocolate drop eyes! X
DeleteOh, the minis! I love tiny things to make tiny dioramas. What a lucky find!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like fun Val! X
ReplyDeleteYour fabrics remind me of doing something with mine now. Your little finds are lovely, I still like to play with my three years old tea party and dolls. X
ReplyDeleteI do t think we ever grow out of dolls houses do we! X
